Committee formed to oversee pact implementation

Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) and Dar es Salaam Maritime Institute (DMI) in March 2024, the parties have formed the Steering Committee to oversee the implementation of the pact.

The Committee, comprised of five members from each party, held a kick-off meeting on July 24, 2024, in Dar es Salaam to prepare an action plan for implementing the MoU - among other things. The meeting was Chaired by PURA.

PURA and DMI management expect the Committee to play a vital role in realizing MoU’s objective of facilitating the establishment of an accredited safety and survival training center in the country.

Currently, there is no accredited center in Tanzania that provide offshore safety courses such as Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET).

For this reason, Tanzanians who are aspired to work in offshore projects including oil and gas are necessitated to go for such training overseas at substantial costs.
